12:02 am - Apartments

TQC, why do people feel the need to omit the "a" from "that" when typing? I don't get why they don't just suck it up and press down on the key. Is it really that difficult? The more ridiculous the answer, the better.

Alternatively, what are your plans for New Year's?

11:18 pm - Freezer/Fridge/Cupboard List Template for Organizing?
Hey folks! My boyfriend's parents got us a 5.3 cu. ft. chest freezer for our (Brooklyn) apartment and we're busy filling it up with good stuff. Later in February, we're going to split half a cow with them and my bf's cousin & his wife. That will roughly be 120lbs of beef for each of the three households. Before that, I would like to start organizing it so we can know what to rotate and not lose stuff in there. Plus, over the course of the next week, I'm planning to do a bunch of batch cooking such as stocks, soups, etc to stick in there for easy meals.

So, I ask, does anybody have a template for freezer list? I know it should be simple enough to make & print it once or 2x/month, but I would like to have a rather efficient way of organizing it. Also, how do folks do a fridge/cupboard or pantry list for themselves? Do you simply list everything, make blank lines to add "We need more of this...", print and tape it to the fridge & cupboards? Or do you make handwritten lists and tape them up? If you have an Excel or Word file, would you mind sharing? I've Googled and am probably not using the right words for this search, "freezer list". Whenever I do find something (a while ago), it seems overly complicated like an entire food matrix or something.

I would like to have these for the new year because it would help immensely to know what's available in our kitchen so we could throw dinners together rather quickly or just meal plan for the week. My boyfriend can be bad about not cooking dinner if I don't initiate at times. He's completely content to eat a bowl of cereal. Since I'm restarting classes in January and running my design business, it would be great to have a bit more control or just plain organization in this area. Any help is much appreciated and thanks so much!

10:02 pm - Cinematical Presents: The 25 Hottest of 2009

We've arrived at the very end of 2009, which means it's finally time to unveil our hotly-anticipated 25 Hottest and Lamest lists of 2009. Tonight we're kicking things off with our 25 Hottest of 2009 list, which includes a number of movie-related events (films, actors, actresses, trends, scenes) that we all thought were the hands-down hottest things to happen in Hollywood over the past 12 months. Joining us from the Cinematical staff for this year's lists are Eric D. Snider, William Goss, Monika Bartyzel, Dawn Taylor, Elisabeth Rappe, Jen Yamato and Peter Hall. We'll be back tomorrow night with our list of the 25 Lamest of 2009. Enjoy!

25. Up's tear-jerking silent vignette
With each new film, Pixar finds some way to top itself. The marvelous innovation in Up was the wordless sequence near the beginning, set to Michael Giacchino's wistful score, depicting Carl and Ellie's entire life together -- including the sad fact that they can't have children. Who else would dare to try that? And who but Pixar could pull it off so gracefully? -- ES

24. Chris Klein in Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li (so lame it's hot)
February is traditionally a dumping ground for Hollywood duds, and when watching Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, it's hard to disagree. But then who rises out of the ashes of clunky dialogue and limp fight scenes but Chris Klein, strutting his way into both the movie and my heart with an equal amount of swagger. That greasy hair! That false bravado! Those squinty eyes! The way he screams "Nash out!" into any nearby communication device! Don't let the release date fool you; within this crappy video game movie hides one brilliant audition reel for any coming Zoolander sequel -- WG

I purchased a laptop on eBay two weeks ago, and received a large box with duct-taped bricks inside today. I'm trying to figure out what to do.

The guy has 100% feedback even now, and has been a seller for 3+ years, so I'm thinking the postman may have done it - especially since the package says it was shipped via Priority Mail back on December 15, which means it should have been here no later than the 18th. If it was the postman, who do I file a complaint with? FWIW, the postman is new; he started working a few weeks ago, about a week prior to me buying the laptop on eBay. The laptop came with complimentary shipping insurance, too, btw.

Or, do I still file the dispute with eBay? And if so, do I file a dispute for Item Not Received, or Significantly Not As Described? Do bricks count as an "item," or do I say the box was empty? Is there any chance I'm going to get my $535 back?

This is the first (and probably last) time I've ever purchased anything on eBay D:

1. where were you on 9/11?
mine )

2. what was your reaction to it?
i didn't cry until i saw the footage of the jumpers.

3. what do you think about the 9/11 truth movement (aka the conspiracy theorists)?
whatever, though i wish they'd stop protesting at ground zero on every anniversary.

4. do you think the past decade will be known for 9/11?

5. knowing what you know now, has your reaction to 9/11 changed since?
the same people who looked down on new york for being the home of the ~liberal elite~ now use the deaths of these thousands of new yorkers for purely political gain, which is both sad and a special kind of enraging. /end rant

Dear TQC: I have an idea for a spin-off TQC community. I would need a few creative souls and devoted members and readers to make it work.

Will this fly? And or has this been done before?

04:53 am - ml vs. mL

What kind of doughnuts do you like?

I'm making some right now and I can't decide how I want to top them. My options are a glaze on top with sprinkles, chocolate covered, or powdered sugar covered. Maybe I could toss some in cinnamon. I'm going to end up making an unnecessary amount of doughnuts just to get all of the flavors covered.

My family wants me to go skiing tomorrow. I hate skiing. The last time I went I was nine and I crashed into a pole and broke my nose. I'm sixteen now, and my family wants me to go with my cousins tomorrow.
Cons: Ski lifts mean height. I am terrified of heights. I could be spending the day pampering myself and going to the gym. I could be spending the day cooking and smoking pot. I have to wake up at 8 AM for this shit? Also, fucking it's cold in the winter. :( Plus, I just tried on my winter clothes. The pants are two sizes too big for me since I lost 20 pounds last year.

Are there any pros? Convince me that this doesn't suck so much.

Why, TQC, is my libido so low?

I have had sex with my SO maybe twice in the past 30 days. I just don't want it, and if he wants it bad enough, okay, I'll go along with it, and eveennnnntually I get into it enough, but it feels like a chore, which is confusing to me because my SO is sexy as hell. The only time I want to is when I'm drunk off my ass, and then I want to have sex in the most exhibitionist-way possible.

I can only think of three reasons:

--I am secretly embarrassed to have orgasms, and it is affecting my sex life (I think this might be a legit concern, actually).
--I live with my soon-to-be mother in law, and when we try and solve that problem by going to a hotel, I feel like a hooker.
--I have a hormonal balance due to a tumor that is pressing down on my adrenal gland (thank YOU, Grey's Anatomy).

What are other reasons my libido could be so low? Are the reasons I listed legit? Have any of you ever dealt with this problem? How do I fix this shit so that when we get married, I actually want to have sex? I am a virile, young, 25-year-old-in-March, Goddamnit! I am in my prime.

10:21 pm - For the girls, mainly.
Inspired by this post from earlier today:

Your SO proposes to you, and he/she gives you an engagement ring. But the ring, it is super awful and completely not your taste.

Are you upset?

Do you tell him/her that you hate it and then go exchange it? DO YOU SAY NO?

Is there any merit to the idea that if the ring sucks, it translates into something bigger?
(Kinda like when Aidan first proposed to Carrie with that shitty gold marquee cut diamond ring?)

I know not everyone does the engagement ring thing, these questions are for if you do.
